A Tail Affair: 3 reasons adopting a pet makes you a star! 🌟

Eyes that will always wait for you

A tail that will never fail to wag for you

A heart that will forever hold space for you

A paw that will always reach out to comfort you

I thought I’d lead this blog with these lines I’ve penned in honour of man’s best friend, our four legged furry friend.

Rescuing Coco 11 years ago has been the biggest blessing, a sentiment that resonates with many pet parents. Our pets become an integral part of our lives and homes, and more often than not end up supporting us more than we could ever imagine. Yet every day I find myself in a paradoxical situation. On the one hand, while I meet people who talk about how much they love animals, and how they’d love to get a dog, on the other hand, there’s a dearth of news on social media about pets abandoned or being found by rescues in poor conditions.

The point I’m trying to make is that if you’ve ever thought to yourself β€˜Someday I’ll bring a dog home’, may be reading this is a sign. Not saying you have to do this now. On the contrary, please don’t rush into it because after all you will be taking responsibility for a life, an innocent, voiceless soul’s at that.

So think it through, but for when you do feel ready:

Make adoption your first option

By adopting a pet from a shelter or rescue centre you are giving the animal a second chance at life, and for every animal that’s adopted, there is another waiting to be seen. Also whilst there may be ethical breeders, there are also those that are involved in questionable breeding practices, which you don’t want to encourage by ‘shopping’ for a pet from such breeders or pet stores.

When you feel like your heart is ready to welcome wet kisses, get in touch with a local shelter or rescue to find your dream pet, although I believe it is always the other way round. Your dog will choose you!

This also applies to friends of yours looking to welcome a fur baby into their lives. Telling them about the benefits of adopting one could just be the win-win situation we want for every human and animal.

Because I live between London and Dubai, I’m listing a couple of shelters/rescues in these cities, that I know have an adoption/fostering program and that could benefit from your support. However, if you live in any other city a google search will bring up shelters and rescue centres local to you.

Fostering or Supporting

If you’re nervous to take a deep dive, perhaps you can foster a dog for a couple of weeks, and if you don’t feel ready at all to bring a fur baby home you can help animal shelters and rescue organisations continue the crucial work they do by sponsoring food, treats, medical care and boarding for their resident animals.

3 reasons why adopting a pet makes you a star! 🌟

  1. You are giving an abandoned, written off animal a second chance at life.
  2. By adopting a pet or even by fostering, volunteering or contributing to rescues you are empowering them to continue the crucial work they do for animal welfare.
  3. You’re saying yes to moments of joy shared with a lifelong friend!

And on the flix list today:

While my heart can’t take the emotional rollercoaster ride that comes with watching doggy movies, there are a couple like 101 Dalmatians, and Marley and Me that I watched back in the day, and that might just be the final nudge you need to get more involved in making life better for some four legged angels.

Final verdict!

There’s coffee for bad days, and puppy snuggles for worse. Remember compassion is classy πŸ™‚

Until the next time,
